Pathophysiology
Accumlation of myeloid blasts unable to differentiate into mature
neutrophils rbc or platelets results in bone marrow failure Definitive
diagnosis is 120 blasts of myeloid lineage on bone marrow peripheral
blood smear This will also distinguish AML for ALL
Signs symptoms
Fatigue dizziness palpitations pallor Anaemia I RBC
Mucousal bleeding bruising menorrhagia Thrombocytopenia
Signs of infection
Investigations
FBC I Hb RBC T WCC I neut I platelets
Peripheral blood smear Myeloid blasts 220 on blood
film presence of Auer rods or Phi bodies
Coagulationpanel May be
normal or show Dlc
prolonged
DT APPT and I
fibrinogen
Flow cytometry Great to
distinguish AML from ALL AML
typing is negative for Tdt and positive for myelo
peroxidase All is the opposite
HLA
antigentyping Allogenic stem cell transplant
