ASSIGNMENT 4
SEMESTER 2 2022
, BTE2601/2022 ASSIGNMENT 04
QUESTION 1: Creating a movable vehicle -Task one
Learning Objective for task one
• To experience the benefits of designing a lesson that utilizes the benefits of a playful in the activation
of competencies, skills, and knowledge of a particular project.
Your Task one
1.1. Your task is to build a model of a vehicle that can move. Think about how you will make this
object move given the items that are available to you. You do not need to buy anything for this
activity but simply collect and use what is available to your area/community.
Collect recycled materials together such as egg boxes, newspaper prints, toilet paper rolls and
whatever you can find in your area. Once you have made your vehicle model take a picture of it and
share it. Outline the benefits of playful project-based learning using your own experience of doing
this project. You will refer to the board theories, philosophies, pedagogies and principles that
underpin this approach. (10)
Project-based Learning is a way of teaching that encourages learners to work together to solve
problems that are real to them and which come from their daily lives. While solving these problems,
learners will grow their skills of collaboration and working together in groups. They will improve their
communication abilities and develop their abilities to think critically, ask questions and challenge
options. Most importantly for their entrepreneurial mindset growth and the development of their
entrepreneurial activities, they will creatively solve problems in new and innovative ways using
knowledge from the CAPS and other sources.
Entrepreneurs who leave school prepared with the skills and mindset to solve problems are also those that
employers are looking for. They are seeking people who can think critically, innovate and learn without the fear
of failure and communicate clearly and confidently. The world needs young people who can collaborate
dynamically and participate actively in productive dialogue. These are people who risk small, regular and
carefully designed experiments and who persevere and do not give up when a solution isn’t immediately obvious.
They can adapt to change with as little anxiety as possible.
Project-based learning is all about the process: the process is ore important than the end product.
Learners learn a lot if their project does not work. Therefore, reflection, feedback, and iteration are
also important to the learning process. Learners receive, and apply feedback to improve their process
and products, and ways to overcome challenges. Project-based learning is learner based whereby
learners make decisions about the project, such as how they work and what they create. The project
is framed around a meaningful problem to solve that is context and age appropriate. An essential part
of project-based learning projects is that learners work together. This is important because in the real
world you usually have to work with other people.
By “doing” PBL over and over, learners will become good at the tools of learning which are: accessing
information, reading, researching, consulting experts, analysing information, using evidence, sharing
and comparing ideas, identifying useful information, learning from mistakes, and recording learnings.
1.2. Think about all the different things you learnt while making this vehicle and explain them. (5)
Time management
I have learnt that as a teacher, sufficient time must be provided for learners to think about, plan,
execute, and edit their projects. Class time affords learners equal access to expertise and materials;
projects may also need sufficient out-of-school time.
