The German reaction against the punitive Treaty of Versailles. Demonstrations were
accompanied by strikes across Germany, often instigated by Soviets that had been set up in
factories, and the sinking German fleet at Scapa Flow to prevent him from falling into the
British hands.

Germans believe that the amount required for reparations were too much. They felt like if
they did pay the money required, they would not be able to afford anything basic like food.
