An Evaluation of Cutting Edge Advanced

The provided material is structured with the stages of the lesson clearly outlined. The level of
English is appropriately selected for advanced students. The variety of activities is also well
balanced. The material is addressing different aspects of language improvement, listening,
speaking, reading and writing. It includes use of practice, recycling and revision. Activities designed
to check student’s understanding are included which makes the material a solid base for the
lesson.
The design of the unit is very structured, colourful and entertaining which could help attract the
students attention and engagement with the lesson. The topic of the lesson is very objective and
made for a wide variety of people which consents rational debate and allows one to focus on the
language. The topic is also very trendy and would keep the students interested. It can speak to all
students from different backgrounds and origins and make them more engaged with the material
and could result in them being more interested in the lesson. It is also not offensive towards
anyone. The only thing about the design is that it could be a little distracting because there is a lot
going on.
The unit includes different pronunciation of American and British English. This is very useful and
often not addressed. The spectrum regarding globalisation is advanced and should allow the
students to have a meaningful conversation about the topic.
I personally would use the material for my lesson. Overall this material is of great quality and
carefully put together. Although I would add some tests, as well as speaking activities to practice
pronunciation. The structure is very well built which makes it easier to guide through the difficulty
level of the lesson. I did not see a vocabulary list or teachers instructions, so you still have to make
some preparations beforehand.
