In this assignment I am going to be discussing the retail business
Tesco and their different format types as well as comparing their
function, purpose and locations. Tesco the company is a clicks and
bricks retailer based in England, but also serves in 12 other
countries, with having over 530,00 workers and serving tens of
millions of customers every week. The well-known retailer was
found in 1919 and his since developed to be one of the leading
retail businesses in the world. The different Tesco formats are
designed to satisfy the varied shopping customers they
experience. With have different types of stores they offer a lot of
flexibility when it comes to the changing planning policy. With the
designing and having of new stores they have to take in account
the needs of the locals so they ensure that the changing of that
land suit the surrounding areas, so for example you cannot just
place a big Tesco extra store in the middle of town, it would not
suit the surrounding areas, where as if it is out of town it suits the
surrounding areas because it is out of the way. The different
formats of Tesco that I will be writing about are:
One stop
Express
Home plus
Metro
Superstore
One stop is a retail convenience business with over 750 stores in
England’s and wales. They concentrate on selling a small range
products for the local customer’s needs. One stop has been
owned by Tesco since 2003. One stop have quite a few various
products on offer such as newspapers, soft drinks, sweets and
biscuits, wine and groceries. They are usually located down a
busy street, locally, or as a corner shops. Usually the type of
customers they get are quick shoppers who are on their work or
school or on their way home. For example; someone on their way
to work would go nip in quickly to pick up a newspaper and some
breakfast. Also they don’t offer any parking facilities, it’s just side
of the road quick parking.
