Boston Standard
In this article I am going to be looking
at the retailing industry, not only in
the UK but also in the Boston area,
Lincolnshire. Retailing plays an
important role in everyone’s life and is
an essential part of the UK economy. It
is one of the most significant
industries in the United Kingdom with
currently 9% of UK businesses being
retailers, 189,280 being the total
amount of retailers in the UK at this
time. The retail industry currently
employs over 3 million workers, with 60% of them being women.
Retail sales totalled to an outstanding £321 billion in 2013.
There are many different types of shops in Boston, ranging from
discount stores, hybrid stores, factory shops, clicks and bricks,
service only, and then a shopping village just out of Boston.
Boston has all the things that the UK has in the retail sector it’s
just on a very smaller scale. In terms of retailing Boston has
changed a lot, we have lost the likes of burton, JD, and Edinburgh
Hill and have gained a lot more discount shops and little
cafes/restaurants. Despite that, in Boston you can still find
somewhere to do your shopping for goods, the men can either
visit Coneys, Oldrids or officers club. The women have a few good
retail shops for them in Boston, including select, new look, and
Dorothy Perkins. So in overall Boston isn’t a bad place, they have
a high-street with a different range of shops, two large
supermarkets and a shopping village just out of town.
