In the course reading this week there was a focus on ‘noise’ preventing effective communication.  Explain the different types of noise introduced and provide workplace scenarios describing situation where the noise could exist. There are four different types of noise that can disrupt communication. Physical noise interferes is external to both speaker and listener; it hampers the physical transmission of the signal or message. Example of physical noise: like irritating hum of your computer, air conditioner, or heater. (Norris, 2019) Physiological noise is created by barriers within the sender or receiver. Example of physiological noise interferes is like when someone talks to fast or slow. (Norris, 2019) Psychological noise is mental interference in the speaker or listener. Example of psychological noise are wandering thoughts, preconceived ideas, and sarcasm. (Norris, 2019) Semantic noise is interference created when the speaker and listener have different meaning systems. Example would be jargon is a fantastic linguistic shortcut. (Norris, 2019)
