PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
On The Job Training
On the job training is when the employee works in the normal working place but is
continually observed by a senior staff member or a manager itself. The employee works
normally and is corrected by the observer. This method is really useful as the employees
have an opportunity to learn and polish their skills while being trained and meanwhile the
employee is also being paid. However the employee is under pressure as he is continually
being observed which can make him stressed and he might not be able to work positively.
The employee might have the other technique of doing the same thing but he could be
interrupted by the observer and this will be noted down and may affect his job.
In a law profession, experience is really important. As I’ll be new to this profession I
wouldn't’t be experienced, so the only thing which will assist me will be on the job training.
While I will be studying my chosen course in the university I’d be doing a part time job in a
law firm so that I can get the experience which my profession really requires. At first I will
definitely require some help which will be pretty easy at on the job training as I will be
facilitated by the seniors. Then the lawyers/barristers can help me to do many tasks in their
supervision and I will learn a lot from them which will be really useful in the future studies
as I would’ve done them practically so it will be easier for me to understand.
, Performance Appraisal
Performance appraisal is the process by which a manager or senior staff
member examines and evaluates the performance of the employee by looking
at his/her work by comparing it to the required standard. The results help the
employee to see areas of concern so that they can improve on them.
This is really suitable for my career as it will be a short analyses on my working
skills and then my manager can set me skills in regards to my abilities. This will
help me to see my positive and negatives, then I can be assisted by seniors
who can supervise me or help me in doing a different or a new task. I can also
undergo the training period by following the seniors by watching them how
they work and leaning from them.
Mentoring
It is an employee training system under which a senior of more
experienced individual called the mentor is assigned to act as an
advisor, counselor or guide to a junior or trainee. The mentor is
responsible for providing support to, and feedback on the individual in
his/her charge.
Mentoring will help me to increase my confidence and motivate me to
work harder as it will help me to reinforce my own study skills and
knowledge related to my law profession. It will also boost my
recognition and help me build a good repute.
