Assignment C - Part 1
An Evaluation of Cutting Edge Advanced
Use the checklist from unit 10 ('Evaluating course book material') to write a general evaluation
of the book.
You won't be able to comment on all items as you only have one unit and the contents, but say
as much as you can.
This must be presented as a coherent essay, not just a list.
Then say whether you personally would like to use the book with an advanced class and why or
why not - this is just your opinion, so there is not a right or a wrong response to this part.
You do not need to refer to the class described for Part 2 of this assignment.
Write 300 - 500 words.
An Evaluation of Cutting Edge Advanced
The material of Cutting Edge Advanced course book is simply articulated and top-notch.
The points, language concentration and abilities covered are reasonably and acceptably coordinated with an
unmistakable indication, in the items table, of the equilibrium of the four abilities in every unit.
The material offers sufficient language synopsis and grammar- and vocabulary applications. It consists of a
good equilibrium of speaking, listening, writing and reading skills. The grammar, vocabulary and
pronunciation areas are practically employed in the material. There is a vast amount of stimulating tasks to
draw students in with a diversification of activities which calls for work in pairs and groups.
The material is attractively presented with fitting titles in colour dividing components which make it easy to
differentiate the reading text from the practical exercises. The vibrant colourful outlay of the reading texts
as well as the picture illustrations make the material alluring. The reading and listening texts are stimulating
and intriguing because of the fascinating topics which cover very useful information. Vocabulary and
grammar reference pages are supplied in the material for the students.
I would personally utilize the material with an advanced class as it covers a well-structured programme of
study. The material will help cut back on preparation time because it comprises of exercises and also
features practise and revision activities. As this is only a guide the lessons can be simplified and
reconstructed is such a way that it benefits both the students and myself. The material can also be utilized
with additional approaches as it can be used to create revision activities that can be incorporated into the
lessons.
In conclusion, this material allows students to discuss the topics of Urbanisation and Globalisation on an
educated level. Students will be capable of introducing facts and knowledge to support their case by using
appropriate phrases as well as discussing active ways of learning a language and to recognise their own
learning wants. Students will be capable of writing reports that will enable them to differentiate the
varieties of English.
