In this task I will be talking about the advantages and disadvantages of different
types of communications. I will talk about each type of the communication and
explain their advantages and disadvantages.
Verbal communication
Verbal communication is an act of conveying messages, ideas or feelings through
the use of mouth. Verbal communication is the main way of communicating face to
face. Among the key components of the verbal communication are words, sound,
speaking and languages.
Pizza hut used verbal communication to advertise their products.
The advantages of verbal communication:
Saving time under this system of communication the messages are
communicated immediately without consuming any time
Immediate response with verbal communication, most of the times you would
get an instant response from the opposite person.
We can save money when communicating verbally because we do not have
to pay for any printing or postage costs.
The disadvantages of verbal communication:
Lack of proof of messages we will not have any proof of a message that we
have sent for example, if we sent a letter to someone we would have a copy
of that letter so we have the proof but if we just said something to someone
and the next day they turn around and say that we haven't said anything
then we do not have a proof.
Not suitable for future reference because we do not have a written message
to support our case.
Written Communication
When a message is communicated in writing, it is called written communication.
Written communication take place in the form of letters, reports, magazines, notice
board, handbook and other uses. Written communication I generally used for
communicating a messages across two parties. It might be company
communicating with the customer or customer sending a letter to the company
because of the poor service they have received. Pizza hut uses written
communication when sending out leaflets to customers about their products and
sales.
The advantages of written communication are:
, Written communication provides a proof for future reference. If there is any
dispute on any point in this regard, the message may be referred.
Clear and self-explanatory and the receiver of the message can easily follow
and understand it.
Written communication is more precise than other means of communication.
The disadvantages of written communication are:
Unlike other forms of communication, written communication can take a
considerable amount of time to produce.
Written communication is sometimes limited to people who have sight. Blind
people or the visually impaired, for instance cannot receive certain types of
written communication. For example, a blind man cannot receive information
from a poster or notice.
Written communications are also not flexible. It is a very rigid means of
communication.
On Screen
On screen communication is information produced on screen that can be exchanged
between groups and individuals. Videos, animators and TV adverts are all examples
of on-screen communication. When communicating via on-screen we use computer
or smartphones.
The advantages of on screen communication are:
Large number of people can view the screen, and receive important
information from it.
If the receivers are illiterate, the visual communication will be more effective
to exchange information. They can easily understand the information that is
presented visually.
Everyone can explain the meaning of it very easily. Easy explanation has
made the visual techniques more popular.
The disadvantages of on screen communication are:
The visual methods of communication are more costly than those of other
methods. To draw maps, charts, diagram is costly. That is why only large
company or organization can use this technique.
Sometimes visual presentation of information becomes complex. The
receivers cannot understand the meaning of the presentation.
Web Based
Web based communication is exchanging information through the use of the
internet. The majority of companies now have a website that people can access
