Nature of the Problem
The problem that the client has is that they do not have any prior experience or any knowledge of
creating a spreadsheet model. They don’t know how to create a spreadsheet model that will be able to fit
their requirements. Therefore, they have asked me to create a model that can help predict the potential
impacts of exchange rate fluctuations on the company’s profit margin. They want to be able to know the
impacts of applying their decisions on the profit margin sales. They want a model that can be easily used
by others that do not have any experience with spreadsheet models and be able to enter the exchange
rate and choose to either change the margin or the prices. They expect a full functioning model that can
predict the sales and profits based on the decisions they want to make.
Functions the model must perform
The model must be able to perform the following actions
- enter new and different exchange rates on to the model
- able to apply those profit margins and exchange rates onto the sales price.
- be able to change the projected monthly sales unit per 10p increase on a cheese (if exchange rate
is 0.7)
- impacts of decreasing prices or increase prices on the possible sales.
- allow users to change the profit margin or prices
- be able to calculate the profits and losses
User Interface
For the user interface, they have asked me to make sure that people who do not have any prior
experience with spreadsheets can enter an exchange rate value.. This is because the exchange rates
fluctuate every day therefore they should be able to change it. As well as they should be able to change
the profit margins which will be able to change the projected profits of the cheese company.
Success Criteria
The success criteria is to
- Have a full functioning model that works perfectly
- Every formula and features must be able to work
- Meet the requirements of the client brief
- All of the functions must work
- Be designed well with no faults and make sure to test.

Model Design
Solution 1
Justification
I believe that this is a simple layout to use. This is because there is nothing complex about it, the colours are quite
simple which I believe is a good thing since simple and neutral colors will be able to fit bess in a spreadsheet
model. I referred to the client spec and they have said to make sure that there is a simple user interface which I
believe I have met.
Feedback
Ihsaan - try colours that more relate to “cheese”
Should look more nice and modernistic
Mr. Ahmed
- “Looks simple however I am a bit confused on how to use the spreadsheet model. What could you add to
guide the user?”
Can you make it more suitable for the end user? Have you managed to include all the data that the client has
given? Could you make possibly a better design or add other colours?
, Solution 2
Justification
I’ve decided to make the navigation system look much better. I believe that the aesthetics are better.
Highlighting the page that the end user is on is important because they might get confused to what page
they might be on. Therefore it is key to have this type of system implemented onto the spreadsheet. As
well as that the client has asked me to create a spreadsheet model with a good user interface and
anyone who doesn’t have prior experience with spreadsheet software should be able to use the model
Feedback
Abdus “Put a company logo on the spreadsheet model”
Ihsan “I would put the text in bold to show that your on that page”
How are you going to present your exchange rate and supplier lookup? What is the supplier
lookup page going to do?
