How to Form Past Tense from Regular
Verbs and Irregular Verbs
It’s not that hard to form past tenses, whether it’s from a regular verb or an irregular one.
First of all, how do we determine whether a verb is regular or irregular? Well, it’s easy. Basically, if a
verb that’s on it’s simple form turned into past tense doesn’t follow the formula of adding –ed by
the end of the verb, it is an irregular verb. And from this, we can conclude that simple formed verbs
that turns into past tenses that are added with –ed by the end of it is a regular verb. And look, I gave
an example of it, look at the highlighted word :).

Regular Verbs
Example:

Simple Form Simple Past
Watch Watched
Fix Fixed
Hand Handed
Mix Mixed

And for your information, some regular verbs double up their last letter before they add –ed
in their simple past form.

Example:

Simple Form Past Form
Trap Trapped
Stop Stopped

Some regular verbs that end with e don’t need to add up another e.

Example:

Simple Form Past Form
Shave Shaved
Smile Smiled

Irregular Verbs

There are many and I mean MANY of irregular verbs that we use daily.
