In this assignment, I will plan suitable development activities for a training
programme for new staff members, management and teachers of ABC
College.

Scenario

You are part of a workplace HR team and have been given the task of
coordinating the training needs of a diverse range of employees across ABC.
To do this you will create a training prospectus or leaflet to show typical
training available.

To begin with, in order to welcome new members of staff, the college should
plan a development and training activity to build up their confidence and
make them settle into their role. This would also make them more
comfortable in performing their duties as they will be aware of all the major
undertakings around the college. For instance, every educational institution
has a different approach in terms of procedures and techniques of dealing
with particular issues.

That is, at our college, teachers are required to take the register at the
beginning of each lesson and to mark lateness appropriately. Therefore, the
college’s training programme could brief new employees on how to use the
college intranet, where to find shortcuts, how to make use of Moodle... They
should also be informed of disciplinary procedures and how to issue ‘cause
for concerns’ among other main practices. At the end of the training session,
the staff’s progress could be evaluated and they could be given certificates
for their time and to motivate them to keep up with the high standards.

Nevertheless, the most important aspect which ABC College has to consider
is the induction processes. After recruitment, a good induction programme
is the way to help a new employee settle into the organisation quickly. The
first few days at the college are the ones that are more likely to create a
strong impression on new members and these can either engage them into
their role or push them to leave. Therefore, it is vital that the college
provides a positive first impression by planning and creating an organised,
structured and information induction program. In short, the induction
process will ensure that the new employee understands the college’s main
policies, rules and regulations, organisation structure, objectives,
departments, communication methods, and layout of the building to be able
to make their way around the college. This will not only give a professional
image of the college, but also help to establish clear expectations and
working standards right at the very beginning.
