, 6.1.1 - Overview of Section B:
Paper 2, Section B - Writing:

• In Section B of Paper 2, you produce one piece of non- ction writing,
where you write about your own views.

1. The Question:

• You will be given a topic or a statement.

• You will be told which format to write in – this could be a letter, speech,
newspaper article, blog, etc.

• You will be told the purpose of the text – writing to inform, persuade,
advise, entertain, etc.

• The writing section will be linked to the reading materials in section A.
(So, it is a good idea to do the reading section rst.)

• Try to use some information from section A, but do NOT just copy it!

2. Timing for Section B:

• Spend 10 minutes planning your ideas before you start writing your
answer.

• This plan can take whatever form you like (spider diagram, bullet points,
etc) because it will NOT be marked. Students that plan their answers for
this question always get more marks!

• Spend 30 minutes writing your answer.

• Spend 5 minutes checking – focus on spelling, punctuation, and whether
or not your sentences make sense.

3. Tips for Answering Section B:

• Carefully check the format – a letter, newspaper article, blog post, etc.
