, 1.2. WHAT DOES BYOD STAND FOR? (2)
”Bring your own device”

1.2.1 WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST ISSUES THAT ARISE FROM
TECHNOLOGY-BASED FORMS OF EDUCATION? (2)
• One of the issues is investing in buying technological equipment that will soon
be outdated
• Another issue is urging students to use technological tools for learning rather
than social networking.

1.2.2 BRIEFLY DISCUSS HOW THE BYOD SYSTEM WORKS. (5)
The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) approach is a strategy that schools can employ
to teach utilizing ICT tools by either purchasing digital devices through the school
district or allowing students to bring and use their own electronic devices. This type
of system is typically introduced to students between the eighth and tenth grade with
very detailed policies concerning the respectful use of digital devices in the
classroom as students need to sign agreements that limit the use of digital devices
only to allocated times in the classroom these policies must be implemented to
ensure that students are not side-tracked and to make sure that social media apps
are band in classrooms and to enabling the school to prohibit students from the from
the BYOD program either temporarily or permanently if fail to oblige by the set rules.

1.2.4 IN YOUR OWN WORDS, EXPLAIN ADVANTAGES WITH REGARDS
TO USING BYOD. (5)
The benefits of implementing the BYOD program include increased student
participation as students become more engaged in the topic being presented,
allowing more students to succeed because they are encouraged to engage with the
material being taught. As ICT tools are used to teach in the classrooms, the BYOD
program builds a positive image in the community and helps attract students from
outside the local divisions. Another advantage is that if students bring their own
digital devices, the school does not have to use their own funds to purchase digital
devices for all of the students, allowing the school to use the money saved on
something more important.
