Research Questions
To what extent do postpartum Mothers experience anxiety and
depression?
Is the postnatal mother’s self-esteem level directly correlated to the
development of postnatal depression?
Does the birthing experience affect the postpartum mother’s
likelihood of developing postnatal depression?
Are the birthing experience, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression
all connected in postpartum depression?
Background & Rationale
Chosen topic area: Mental health. Postpartum depression and anxiety
in women.
This study will assess how postpartum depression and anxiety can
negatively affect women as well as their family if left untreated. It will
gain an understanding of the reasons why this condition is so common in
society and how this relates to implied stigma. An insight will be gained
of the widespread mental health effects that contribute to postpartum
depression and anxiety. The self-reporting cross-sectional survey, self-
esteem, birth satisfaction, and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression (EPD)
scale data will be used to gain further understanding of postpartum
depression and anxiety in women aged 18 – 44 years old.
