Graded Quiz Week 1

1. A smoke alarm in the warehouse detects 98% of fire breakouts. If
the probability of a fire on any random day is 5% and the possibility
of a false alarm (alarm without any actual fire breakout ) is 8%,
what is the probability there is a fire emergency given the alarm
has sounded?
2. Consider two urns ‘A’ and ‘B’ containing green and red balls.
‘A’ contains 1 red and 3 green balls. While ’B’ contains 2 green
and 2 red balls. If in a random draw, the probability of picking
a ball from ‘A’ is twice the probability of picking a ball from ‘B’.
What is the probability of picking a red ball in a given draw?
3. In a coin toss experiment ,the probability of outcome being
head (θ - Head) is 0.8. What is the value of entropy in the given
experiment ? You can assume log(0.8) = −0.2231 and log(0.2) =
