1) A balanced diet is a diet consisting of a variety of different types of food and providing
adequate amounts of the nutrients necessary for good health. There are 7 main food groups:
 Carbohydrates: needed to release energy: bread/rice/pasta
 Fats: needed for energy and to keep you warm: butter/oil/ avocado, coconut (natural fats)
 Proteins: needed for growth, cell repair and replacement: eggs/fish/meat/cheese
 Fibre: aids in digestion: fruit/vegetables
 Vitamins: help the body to work and function and helps concentration: fruit/vegetables
 Minerals: helps the body work effectively and also helps in decision making:
cheese/milk/nuts/fruit/veg
 Water: needed to ensure body stays hydrated and maintain the body’s fluid level.


2) There are many ways that individuals can be affected due to overeating, some of which are;
depression
Weight gain
Irregular sleep patterns
Anxiety

Diseases that can occur due to overeating are:
Heart disease: over feeding your body can cause a lot of fats to enter the body, this can then
increase blood pressure, if blood pressure isn’t controlled and diet isn’t changed it can affect
the heart and cause serious damage. This therefore also increases the risk of stroke and heart
failure.

Kidney disease: being overweight can directly affect kidneys. There is a lot of pressure on the
body, the extra weight forces the kidneys to work harder in order to filter wastes above the
normal level which puts a strain on the kidneys. Overtime this can stop the kidneys from
functioning properly as they have been put under immense pressure which leads to kidney
disease.

3) There are many ways individuals can be affected by under eating, some of which are:
poor metal health
fatigue
pregnancy issues
hair loss

Diseases that can occur due to undereating are:

Anemia: A person who is underweight is more likely to have low blood counts, which causes
dizziness, headaches, and fatigue, this is because the body is not getting the right vitamins and
minerals in order to produce what it needs, therefore causing individuals to become anemic.

Rickets: usually caused by low vitamin D, especially if individuals have low calcium or low
phosphate intake. Calcium and phosphate are minerals that are mostly found in milk and dairy
foods, and they are important for healthy, strong bones. A poor diet can cause an individual to
