C919 Facilitation of Context-based Student-centered Learning This course is a community health course that will run for eight weeks for 2 hours each week and will include 40 students. The overview for this course is: This course will introduce students to the fundamentals, concepts, strategies, applications, and contemporary trends related to community health issues. Students will learn about the methods used to determine the health care needs of a community and how these are addressed by the combined effort of various health care workers. This course also focuses on empowering various populations with the ability to practice healthy living, promote healthy lifestyles, and enhance individual well-being. Three Aspects of the Course Based on the Outline’s Course Overview How the learner will benefit from taking the course The learner would benefit from taking this course by gaining an overall understanding of community health nursing and the effects of health promotion and disease prevention on the overall health of a community. They will also benefit from taking this course because the learner would need the basic knowledge and skills that align with core competencies that are required in community health nursing. The knowledge gained will ensure they reach essential VII of a Baccalaureate prepared nurse education according to the AACN. ("BSN Essentials," 2008, p. 23-26). Specific concepts emphasized in the course The specific concepts that will be emphasized in this course will be: Identify eras in the development of public health. Disease screening and immunizations. Health promotion or prevention instead of curative focus. Collaborate with other healthcare workers to provide appropriate health promotion and disease prevention interventions. Tools for assessing a community. Explain the importance of family nursing in the community setting. Describe groups who are considered vulnerable. Delineate the disaster management phases of prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
