Unit R6165094 - Study Skills for Senior Healthcare Support Workers

Understand what is meant by study skills within the context of the role of Senior
Healthcare Support Worker

1.1 Give examples of the different types of study skills that may be utilised when
undertaking an extended piece of work

Examples of the different types of study skills are the following:

Identification

 I identified my learning style strategies. For example, I know now that I am a visual
type student, so I understand ideas best when they presented in a visual format (such
as texts with clear headings together with photographs or illustrations, different
diagrams, flowcharts or maps. Therefore, I usually used different-coloured
highlighters to colour-code the necessary information in my notes.

 In my Study Skills Project (SSP) I identified the topic of my project, then later a
problem.

Preparing for the written work

 I created a plan with actions and timeframe to complete the project.

Note-taking

 I took some notes and tried not to record everything that is being said. I wrote down
only the information what was relevant to the topic.

Time management skills

 I learnt how to organise my time to be more productive.

 To use my time wisely, I regularly used my diary. I always wrote my personal, work
and course commitments into it, including my appointments and tasks I must do.
Afterwards, I kept my diary up-to-date and checked ahead frequently.

 I decided where to study and work on my assignments, including finding a suitable
space at home or in the hospital library where I can concentrate without interruption.
