November 24, 2021 Advanced Professional Roles and Values – D129, A 2
1.Create a professional mission statement ( suggested length of 1 paragraph ) that includes the following:
- a representation of your career goals, your aspirations, and how you want to move forward with your career
- an overview of where you would like to focus your time and energies within the profession As a nurse, my mission in life is to positively influence my patients, family, and people around me because I want them to have a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease/complications. My goal is to continue my mission as a nurse educator/leader, and I want to focus my time and energy on developing my nursing knowledge, teaching, and leadership skills. I want to share my knowledge successfully with others and guide newly graduated nurses. Each day presents new challenges/opportunities that motivate me to focus on my career development as a nurse and lead by example. Introduction to Psychology taught me that what I learn from past experiences is extremely valuable for my future success.
A1a. Write a reflection on how your professional mission statement will help guide you throughout your nursing career.
My mission statement will keep me focused on my professional leader/educator goals. Being a Western Governor University student will help me build my mission of positively influencing others to cultivate a healthy lifestyle and prevent diseases/complications. It became evident to me from the artifact in my e-portfolio that nurse innovators need to use evidence-based practice to elevate the standard of nursing care and adopt positive change in the field. When my knowledge is up to date, I will educate the patients on the latest medical intervention to promote optimal healthcare services. Advanced Professional Roles and Values – D129, A 3
A2a. Explain how a specific artifact or completed work in your e-portfolio represents you as a learner and a healthcare professional.
One of the artifacts in my e-portfolio that represented me as a learner and a healthcare professional was D025, Essentials of Advanced Nursing Roles and Interprofessional Practice (Task 1/Phase 1), because I learned about how to advocate for obesity reduction in Palm Beach County since it was the top second health priority in Florida. As a healthcare professional, I was able to teach and provide a better way of living for the low-income families. I learned how to join forces with local officials, department of health personnel, and Congress officials to fight obesity. I collaborated with food store managers, reduced the prices of
healthy foods, and made it available for low-income families. The program is still current, and many people are living healthy. I worked hard for this course because I did not know how to contact officials or approach them. I learned through online research and asking around in the neighborhood until I found the information that helped me connect with them. Then, I learned about their different roles and capacities to make the change happen. I felt the motivation as a healthcare professional to change lives in my community and motivated other volunteers who share my same passion. I prepared flyers with healthy recipes, food choices, complications of obesity and distributed them in schools, hospitals, shelters, worship places, stores and posted them on social media. As a healthcare professional nurse, I was able to transform the quality of life for many clients in the community.

A2b. Discuss how a specific artifact in your e-portfolio represents your professional strengths.
