Prosocial behaviour is actioned by individuals, that help others, often, with no immediate benefits to the helpers (Branscombe & Baron, 2017). Prosocial behaviour is any action to benefit another person, and may include everyday kindnesses (e.g., bringing food to an elderly relative), as well as larger efforts to improve the world (e.g., volunteering regularly at a local nursing home; Penner, Dovidio, Piliavin, & Schroeder, 2005). One motivation for prosocial behaviour is altruism, or the desire to help others with no expectation of reward. Altruism is when we act to promote someone else’s welfare, even at a risk to ourselves.
