Hackers changing what the advertisement shows
If someone was able to gain access to the system and remotely change the
display device, they could control the device. this could be dangerous as they
could change the material to what they like. If this was something inappropriate,
Brilliant Billboards would get the blame for it, damaging their reputation. To
avoid this, Brilliant Billboards would have to check the system for vulnerabilities
that hackers could exploit. They could try to break into the system themselves to
see if it’s possible without any authentication.
Unauthorised access of the keypads to the display devices
If someone gets unauthorised access to the keypad at one of the displays, they
could change how the device works. They could sabotage it, so staff members
were unable to change the material being shown. This would be bad for Brilliant
Billboards because the material could be insulting another company which would
lead to lawsuits. To avoid this, Brilliant Billboards would have to make sure the
keypads aren’t accessible without the correct password being inputted.
Staff using infected personal device
Staff members using their own devices will be beneficial as Brilliant Billboards
won’t have to supply them. However, if one if infected with malware, it could get
onto the system and damage the company’s property. To reduce this from
happening, personal devices could be scanned before they access the system.
This will ensure no viruses will get onto the organisations network and spread
from there.
Alternatives
An alternative to checking the system for vulnerabilities is adding more security
to the system. Before a change can be made to the device, the display could
send a message to a staff computer for them to validate the request. If they
don’t recognise the device requesting a change, they can deny it.
An alternative to making sure the keypads aren’t accessible without the correct
password is installing a cover over the keypad and locking it. This will stop
intruders from using the keypad at all, plus will require a key to be able to gain
access to it.
An alternative to scanning the personal devices for viruses is installing anti-virus
software onto the system. The software can scan Brilliant Billboards network to
ensure it is safe from malicious programs.
