The implementation for the college’s I.T solution would be very efficient at
providing the needs of students and lecturers to be able to work from home.
This is because they could use their own system so they can do the work
they’d usually do in college. Once they’ve signed into their college account,
they’ll have access to their work from college, services college provide such as
Office 365 and be able to communicate to each other online.
Some people might struggle with sitting at a computer all day and be unable
to see their friends from college. In my solution, I have thought of this and to
help students with this feeling of the lack of human interaction, they could all
use webcams to be able to see each other. If they don’t have a webcam, they
can use their phones instead. Most students already have a phone so once
they set it up, they can all communicate to each other like if they were back at
college.
Another advantage my solution offers is meetings between lecturers and
students can be recorded. This can be useful to students as they can watch
the video as many times as they need if they don’t understand the task. It’s
also useful to students that have missed a particular meeting as well, they can
watch the video in their spare time and catch up ready for the next session.
However, there are some drawbacks to my solution. Not all students will have
access to the required hardware to be able to work from home. Even if they do
have a computer, it won’t necessarily run the programs they need for them to
do work. This will cause problems such as not being able to have quick contact
with students and lecturers, not having quick access to work plus they won’t
be able to use the software the college provide. They could solve this by
buying a new computer, but some students don’t have the money or don’t
want to buy one. So another way is for the college to loan out laptops to
students in need of one. This way the device can be easily transported to them
and back to the college once they’ve finished their time there.
