To live forever. 2 COMMUNICATION IN THE ORGANISATION 2.1 Formal and informal networks: 2.1.1 Formal networks Formal networks of communication are stipulated by the organisation and operate through, regulations, procedures and rules. They make reference to the official written or verbal channels through which communication is interchanged (including interviews, letters, annual reports, personal instructions, training programmes and memoranda). 2.1.1 Informal networks Informal networks of communication subsist in the interpersonal relationships in the organisation and make reference to the interchange of unofficial or informal information (for example conversations between personnel and events such as year-end functions). This information may be work related, social or personal and can include, for example, the grapevine, which is also alluded to as ‘the rumour mill’, where messages flow in all directions and are mostly verbal, social and/or work related
