Interventions and Policies II: practical application

Instruction video component 1 – Needs, resources, outcomes and objectives

They want different people to think about solving this issue. We respond to the call. Knowledge from
McKenzie but also the papers you feel are relevant to include. You want the commissioning party to
choose your proposal.

Underline your decisions. Make decisions about a certain direction you want to go to. This can be a
more specific direction than the one that is described in the case, that’s fine. Show them you are the
expert.

What is the situation right (current situation) now and where do we want to go to (desired outcome).
How to get from A to B. Describe for who is this a problem (target relevant). Why is it relevant to do

,something about it and spend money on intervention development and implementation? Are there
different risks involved? Stakeholders: who should be involved?

Is it a specific context? Disadvantaged neighbourhood, specific country or municipality. Wat has been
done so far? What do we know about previous attempts to address this problem. Is our intervention
the first one or are there any other interventions that tried to tackle this? Is existing data available?

Desk research only so you cannot apply the co-creation process or participatory research.

Tips based on previous years!

 Start with your outcome of interest: It is the key issue in your whole assignment.
 Don’t focus on the things that you may do or that may be effective. Describe briefly wat has
been done already, don’t go into to much detail at this point.
 Define your aims and goals, first generally, what would you like to do. For example the aim to
lower the level of problematic social media users by a parent- and school based intervention.
 First you have a general aim and along the way, while working on the other components (2-
5) you will make the aims/goals more specific.
 Formulate the needs assessment like an introduction to any scientific paper. Describe the
issue you are going to investigate, the context wherein it takes place and why it is relevant to
do that.

, Keep the final aim of the assignment in mind when working on different components. How to
undertake the work: so what to do exactly. How to go about preparing peer feedback: how will you
deal with that.
Besides your work you can also share questions with the subgroup so they can answer them and help
you out.

In the course manual you can find the different questions that should be included, but don’t answer
them one by one. Please integrate it into a narrative description of the needs assessment.

Instruction video component 2 – Determinants of behavior

The critical questions that links the needs assessment with assignment component 2 about
determinants of behavior is ‘who needs to change what behaviors to effectively address the
problems and change the outcomes?
