Watergate scandal started. Two journalists worked
together with an anonymous source inside the FBI with
the goal to expose the political scandal that eventually
led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. And
maybe now a days the scandal is being referred to
more often then ever before with the current president
Donald Trump being suspected of having Russian
connections.
Now back to the past. In 1969 Nixon (picture) was
elected as the new president of the United States of
America.
And you need to understand that the US was in a
turbulent period back then. The country was divided
, because of all sorts of issues, like the Vietnam war,
racism and feminism.
When Nixon became president he tried to repair this
division by hiring more females in the white house and
gradually call back troops from Vietnam. He also
recovered the connection with China and decreases
the tension with the Soviet-Union. Nice guy right? The
American people thought so as well and the majority
voted for him in the new elections. Nixon stayed
president.
