 Distribution: how it reaches to where it needs to be
 Metabolism: how the body transforms the chemical (older adults retain
to medication longer, have them drink a lot of water)
 Excretion: how do you get it out of the body monitor output on older
adults, need to have a smaller dose because of decreased kidney
 function
4. Difference in Absorption
 Slow: SubQ, transdermal, oral
 Quick: mucus (vaginal, rectal, sublingual, buccal), respiratory
 Rapid: IV,
 IM varied depending on the medication.
5. High Alert Medication
 Medication that needs to be double checked: different nurse needs to
double check the amount given (Insulin)
6. Medication Error
 Report immediately, Incident report (done by who ever finds the
 error)
