,In hierdie boekie herhaal ek dieselfde idees dikwels, maar altyd in ’n bietjie ’n
ander manier. (In this booklet I repeat the same ideas many times, but
always in a slightly different way.)

Jy sien dieselfde betekenis in kort Engelse sinne, in kort Afrikaanse sinne, en in
vrae of tabelletjies. (You see the same meaning in short English
sentences, in short Afrikaans sentences, and in questions or little
tables.)

(Every
time you read an idea again, your brain remembers it better.)

(Because you speak English, I repeat the Afrikaans words
and sentence patterns with English translations, so you slowly get used
to Afrikaans without too much pressure.)

These notes are full of gentle repeats so your brain can remember the
important ideas, not just in one place, but many times, in small steps.

, Halala Afrika - Johannes Kerkorrel
Line-by-line
Dear Student, here I have done the four stanzas, Afrikaans first, then in
brackets English.

(When the world here was still young and the horizon wide and open.)
(It was green here in the hemisphere, south of the equator.)
(And in the twilight when the sun sets and the cattle run home.)
(Sounds the call of the women over the hills of the land:)
5. Halala, ewig is ons Afrika.
(Rejoice, eternal is our Africa.)
6. Tula tula mtanami, tula tula sanaboni, tula tula mtanami,
(Tula tula mtanami, tula tula sanaboni, tula tula mtanami,)
7. Ubab uzobuya sihlale naye, ubab uzobuya sihlale sonke, Hmmm-Hmmm
(Ubab uzobuya so we may live with him, Ubab uzobuya we may live all of
us, Hmmm-Hmmm)
(Then came the ships from the west, white sails over the sea)
9. Om te vra vir kos en water en te bly vir so veel meer.
(To ask for food and water and to stay for so much more.)
(And the land that once was open, the land we exchanged)
(For the ghettos of the cities our copper wire is given.)
(There was wealth in the womb of our mother Africa)
13.Diamante en ook steenkool, goud, edel metaal
(Diamonds and also coal, gold, precious metal)
(And the people become the slaves here because the people are paid)
(To tunnel in the earth each grain to extract)
