NR 566 Week 7: Ground Rounds Presentation Peer Responses
Hello Marshet,
Your presentation was very interesting and informative. Chlamydia is the most
frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the United States. In 2017,
1.7 million cases of chlamydia were reported to CDC, but it is estimated that 2.86
million infections occur annually (CDC, 2015). A large number of cases are not reported
because most people are asymptomatic. Chlamydia is most common among young
people, with two-thirds of new chlamydia infections occurring among youth aged 15-24
years. It is estimated that 1 in 20 sexually active young women aged 14-24 years has
chlamydia (CDC, 2015). An alternative regimen is Erythromycin base 500 mg or
Erythromycin ethyl succinate 800 mg orally four times a day for 7 days. When
diagnosed and treated for chlamydia, the patient should be educated and prompted to
tell all recent anal, vaginal, or oral sex partners, so they can see a health care provider
and be treated as well. This reduces the risk that the sex partners will develop serious
complications from chlamydia, and will also reduce the person’s risk of becoming re-
infected (Rowley et al., 2019). Erythromycin is a generic prescription medicine used to
treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is available in generic and brand versions.
The lowest GoodRx price for the most common version of erythromycin is around
$10.00, 57% off the average retail price of $23.71. Publix’s price is $13.02, CVS’s price
is $15.80, Walmart’s price is $13.18, and Kroger’s price is $12.13 with the GoodRx
coupon. I hope she follows the treatment plan and maintains medication compliance in
order to protect herself and begin to feel better.
