Unit 19 - P4 and P5
P4
In this assignment I am going to be demonstrating working as part of a team towards
achieving specific goals.
In your daily life you will most likely work as a team; whether it’s at work, school,
home…etc. Teams help and allow individuals to all contribute and participate. There
are many things that make a team effective because if the team isn’t effective it
won’t have any purpose.
To make a team effective is to clarify and agree tasks. In work you do this by ensuring
everyone is aware of their individual and the team’s goals. You discuss achievable
targets and aim to meet them and possibly exceed them together. To meet tasks in
the team you have to discuss who is going to take on each task and try to spread the
work evenly; if you discuss this then it gives people the chance to say whether they
feel like they are up to taking on a specific task or not. Once you all know your tasks
then you can work together to achieve the goals.
Another thing that you have to do to make a team effective is to value people. In a
team you have to value your colleagues and respect them. Everyone needs to have a
chance to get their views across and voice heard. You need to respect that people
are not all the same and that some people can do what others can’t and that’s what
a team is for as you can help your fellow team members out.
A further thing that has to be done to make the team effective is to encourage other
team members. Some people aren’t as confident as others or don’t believe they can
do things. You can encourage team members by helping them and telling them that
they can do things and when they do things praise them for their efforts and work.
Some people can be shy and need to be encouraged to take part in the team, so you
can welcome them and ensure that they feel comfortable and a part of the team.
To conclude, doing all the things above to ensure the team is effective is how you
work as a team towards achieving specific goals. It is important to make sure the
team communicates and runs smoothly; this will then result in an effective team and
goals will be met.
