If patient is NPO (no food or drink), and they happen to on oxygen or
mouth breathers; make sure you do frequent mouth care to prevent drying
out of mucous membranes. You can soak some swabs in ice chips and
brush teeth.
If pt has dentures, be wary of how slippery they are. Use gauze pad to hold
on to them. They are expensive and easy to break.
Dentures can be put in cup of water throughout the night on bedside table
or if they want to wear them all night that is fine too.
