IAP100 Test 4: Muscular System
Know the different coverings and the names of each layer
EPIMYSIUM: Surrounds the whole bundle of muscles
PERIMYSIUM: Surrounds the muscle FASCICLES
ENDOMYSIUM: Surrounds the muscle fiber
TENDON: Muscle to bone
APONEUROSIS: Broad sheet of fibers, connects muscles to each other
Where is calcium stored?
Stored in the terminal cisternae on either side of the sarcoplasmic reticulum
What kind protein is in a thick filament?
Myosin
What kind of protein is in a thin filament?
Actin
What is a triad?
A triad consists of:
Terminal cisterna with the calcium
T-tubule
Terminal cisterna of the next sarcoplasmic reticulum
What’s in the terminal cisterna?
A high concentration of CALCIUM IONS
And
Very low CYTOSOL ( fluid portion of cytoplasm)
, What do the t tubules do?
T-tubules (transverse tubules):
allow electrical impulses from sarcoplasm to reach cell’s interior
allows unified contraction of entire fiber
What is the z- line?
Marks the boundary at each end of the sarcomere
Strands of protein (TITIN) connect the Z LINES to the thick filament to maintain alignment
What overlaps in the zone of overlap?
The zone between the thick and thin filaments and they overlap when there is muscle contraction
