RTA 211: Production Theory // Dana Lee
Lecture 3:
Video Recording / Editing / File Management:
KINESCOPE!!!!!
History of Film:
- Tape was used from 1950-1980’s
EDITING INTERFACES:
- Big obnoxious editing suites have turned into
editing software
Storage:
- SD cards
- DVDs
- Blu-ray… a lot more storage space, storage is
dope
- All of which come in different storage sizes
What does this mean? How does this affect us?
- What changes when you want to record a program longer than 2 hours is that the
DVD recorder has to compress the video at a higher ratio in order to fit more time
on a 2 hour disk
- The more content you pack into a DVD the lower the quality
- Compressing doesn't mean the disk moves faster or slower just you’re
compressing the information to make more space.
WHATS NEXT?
- Instant replay was invented
EDITING:
- Select important details in an event
and placing them together to convey
a meaningful story
- Separate production from post
production
- Only use what you need
