1. What is your predominate learning style? After taking the learning style inventory quiz,
my learning style is kinesthetic learning. I am more of a physical and more hands-on person,
so I was not surprised.
2. How did this learning style impact your learning in high school or undergraduate school? I
never gave a thought about it in high school or during my undergraduate year. As I think about
it, I wish I had discovered my learning style because it would have made a difference. High
school was not so bad, but I struggled more during my undergraduate year. Most of the
teachers were more of the traditional teacher, they stand in front of a theatre style class with
about 80+ students, with their power point that they basically read from. I had a hard time
paying attention or even staying up. I had to write detail notes and record lecture. The class I
had less problem with was labs because it was more hands on. To study I had to read and read
over and over, even had to study with other students to help. Clinicals were great because I
was able to do things, it was more hands on.
3. How will knowing about learning styles benefit your future students? I think if they were
aware of their learning style it will make a big difference. They will be more likely to know how
to study and struggle less with what the traditional way of studying and learning. I think they
will have a better chance at studying in a way that will be more beneficial to them. If they were
a visual learner but the instructor stands at the podium to lecture without any visual aid, they
may have trouble paying attention. When they are aware of their learning style, they can
develop different learning strategies based on their knowledge of their learning styles. They
will be more confident in themselves, they will know their strength and weakness, what works
and what may not. It can help them enjoy the process of learning.
