Designed for students studying introductory sociology and the social sciences, this comprehensive Test Bank for Sociology, 18th Edition by John J. Macionis supports structured coursework review, concept reinforcement, and examination preparation. The 18th edition provides a broad introduction to sociological theories, research, institutions, social inequality, and social change, with updated material addressing contemporary social issues. The Test Bank provides complete coverage of Chapters 1–25, including the sociological perspective, sociological investigation, culture, society, socialization, social interaction, mass media and social media, groups and organizations, sexuality, deviance, social stratification, social class, global stratification, gender, race and ethnicity, aging, the economy and work, politics and government, families, religion, education, health and medicine, population and environment, collective behavior and social movements, and social change. The resource includes examination-style questions designed around different levels of learning, including recollection, understanding, application, and analysis. This makes it useful alongside coursework for reviewing key sociological concepts, practicing chapter-based questions, and preparing for quizzes, midterms, finals, and introductory sociology examinations.

Chapter 1: The Sociological Perspective

ur
In this revision of the test bank, I have updated all of the questions to reflect changes in
Sociology, Eighteenth Edition. The questions are tagged to indicate one of four levels of
learning that move from lower-level to higher-level cognitive reasoning. The four levels:

si
Recollection: a question involving recall of key terms or factual material

ng
Understanding: a question testing comprehension of more complex ideas

V
Application: a question applying sociological knowledge to some new situation

ib
Analysis: a question requiring identifying elements of an argument and their
interrelationship

e
The 195 questions in this chapter‘s test bank are divided into four types. True/False
questions are the least demanding. As the table below shows, two-thirds of these are
―Recollection‖ questions, and all of them fall within the lowest three levels of cognitive
reasoning (―Recollection,‖ ―Understanding,‖ and ―Application‖). Multiple-choice
questions span a broader range of skills (most are ―Recollection‖ questions and the
remainder are divided among the three higher levels). Short-answer questions are
spread across the highest three levels of reasoning. Finally, essay questions are the
most demanding because they require analysis and other higher levels of cognitive
reasoning.
