what is the original position by Rawls? What is its relation to the state of
nature?

The original position states that one one knows their place in society.
Nor does anyone know his fortune in the distribution of natural assets
and abilities, it relates to the state of nature in that in the state of nature,
no one knows their place in society and has no chance to find out their
abilities.

What is the veil of ignorance and why does Rawls impose it on those in
the original position

The veil of ignorance ensures that no one is advantaged or
disadvantaged in their choice of principles by the outcome of natural
chance or the contingency of social circumstances. Since all are
situated similarly, no one is able to design principles to factor his
particular condition, the principles of justice are the result of a fair
agreement or bargain.

, 2 principles of justice Rawls believes are supported by his version of
social contract theory and why they are implied by that theory

1st principle: requires equality in the assignment of basic rights and
duties
2nd principle: social and economic inequalities (example: inequalities of
wealth and authority are just only if they result in compensating benefits
for everyone, in particular for the least advantaged members of
society.)
These principles are to be arranged in serial order, the first principle
prior to the second.
Why are they implied in the social contract theory - Because everyone
comes to an agreement to be a productive member of society and to
fulfill their rights and duties in order to be treated equally to others. The
second principle states that social and economic inequalities are
necessary to the social contract theory because everyone has different
abilities and jobs; depending on the job and what it does and how hard
it is to get the job; it may end up being more beneficial to society that
some people are paid more or have inequalities compared to others.
Think the doctor example.

Objection to Utilitarianism 1

only simply physical pleasures are valuable--

We cannot live simply for pleasure, otherwise nothing would be
accomplished. The doctrine of swine. Happiness cannot be the only
