CBM - Answers Competency based model: we want you to prove that you know the material
Competency unit - Answers (CU) Similar to a credit hour of learning. Some courses may be assigned 3
CU's and others may be as large as 12 CU's
Transfer credits - Answers Regionally/nationally credits, our policy is very generous but everything
WILL be evaluated. WGU does not waive any requirements based on professional experience.
Have to have ALL transcripts from every school attended.
Credits do not transfer for MS degrees, we need proof of BS.
Assessment types - Answers Two types: objective (the MC and SA type) and Performance (projects,
presentations, etc.)
Grading - Answers Pass/Not Pass with the equivalent of a B on each course, assessment, and
assignment
C.A.R.E - Answers contact, advise, recruit, enroll
Tuition - Answers Flat rate of ~$3000 a term with a $145 resource fee and a DT fee of $1000
Terms - Answers 6 months long beginning the first of every month
Continuous enrollment - Answers Terms start every month and continue until graduation, you can
apply for a term break if needed
Term breaks - Answers must start at the end of a term, you have to fill out an application, and are 1-3
months long
Mentor relationships - Answers Student mentor: sticks with you from the beginning to the end, they
are there for YOU. They will help with any of the processes and get you jump started in your degree
Course mentors: the professor/expert of the class. They are there to help you study, tutor, and work 1
on 1
Accreditation - Answers Regional, sponsored but the NWCCU (Northwest Commission of Colleges and
Universities) which is the same as U of U and U of Oregon, etc.
OTP - Answers Completing all classes on time and being on track to graduate.
Time to completion - Answers Average time between start to graduation. With CBM this can go
down-- chance to accelerate
Satisfactory academic progress - Answers SAP-- must be met for students with financial aid.
Measured quantitatively by reviewing the number of CU's you have completed each term.
Enrollment deadlines - Answers Transcripts: 1st of month prior to ASD
Intake: 15th of month prior to ASD (need FA R&S)
Clearing: 22nd of month prior to ASD (ALL docs R&S)
Learning resources - Answers Fee, has all books and materials you will need
Teacher's college accreditation - Answers National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE)
Degree plan - Answers Personalized, detailed blueprint of the courses you need to take, the
accompanying learning resources, and assessments that compose of the program.
Standard path - Answers Standard plan for students (can change with transfer credits) for the classes
they will be taking each term
Orientation - Answers Focuses on acquainting you with WGU CBM, distance ed, technology, and the
other resources/tools available to students. You will get to know other WGU students. MUST be
completed before you can start your first term, opens on the 15th after INTK.
