Introduction to Competency 9

This evidence, Competency 9: Evaluate Practice with Individuals, Families, Groups,

Organizations, and Communities, mandates and helps the social workers to understand that

evaluation is an ongoing or dynamic process. It is also an interactive strategy that helps them

assess the level and success of their interventions with their social work clients, evaluating the

practices with diverse individuals, populations, and their families, communities, or

organizations. This process must be conducted in social work to ensure the assessment and

monitoring of social work processes and their outcomes (CSWE, 2022). This helps determine

their effectiveness and efficiency, especially in relation to service delivery, practice, and social

work policies. It is also crucial for social workers to integrate the different social work

perspectives and theories during the evaluation to ensure informed practice and the use of

evidence-based strategies. For instance, some of the perspectives that could prove useful in this

step include anti-racist and anti-oppressive perspectives. The theories may consist of some

pertinent to the social work profession, including the person-in-environment and the theory of

human behavior. The social work conceptual framework could also be integrated, including the

interprofessional framework, which is critically helpful for evaluating social work outcomes

(CSWE, 2022). The student will demonstrate an understanding of this competency throughout
