In my community, the principle of Ubuntu is central to how people treat and support one
another. Ubuntu means "I am because we are," which reminds us to care for others, not
just ourselves. For instance, when someone passes away, neighbours come together to
offer help—some bring food, others assist with the funeral, and many join in prayer. This
support isn’t limited to family; anyone in need is cared for. Ubuntu promotes
compassion, unity, and mutual assistance. We help today, knowing we might need help
tomorrow. This collective way of living strengthens peace and harmony among us.
1.2
A situation that showed Ubuntu in action happened when two neighbours argued over a
land dispute and stopped talking for months. Eventually, community elders stepped in to
help. They listened to both individuals and guided them toward understanding. In the
end, the neighbours reconciled, shared a meal, and even attended church together.
This resolution was not about deciding who was right or wrong, but about healing and
restoring their bond. It reflected Ubuntu because it focused on forgiveness, empathy,
and the importance of coexisting peacefully.

Ubuntu is rooted in values like empathy, generosity, respect, and togetherness. These
values help build a caring and supportive community. For example, when a neighbour’s
house was destroyed by fire, many people donated items and helped with rebuilding.
Another example is during school breaks, when some local mothers organise meals and
games for the children. They do this out of love, not wealth. These actions show the true
spirit of Ubuntu—people helping others selflessly,
