integer - ANSWER any positive or negative whole number or zero, such as -6,
0, or 27.

Factors are integers (whole numbers) that can be equally divided into another
integer. To factor a number, simply identify the numbers that can be divided by
it.


A composite number is a whole number that may be divided evenly by itself, 1,
and one or more other whole numbers.

A prime number is a full number that can be divided equally by itself and by
one but not by any other integer.

Exponents are a shorthand for denoting repeated multiplication. For example,
15×15 can be represented as 15².

base - ANSWER a number that has been used as a factor at least twice; it is a
number raised to the exponent. For example, the base of 4³ is four.

square root - ANSWER the number that, when multiplied by itself, equals the
original number. For example, the square root of 36 is 6, and if you square 6 or
multiply it by itself, you get 36.

The factorial is denoted with an exclamation point. It is calculated by
multiplying a whole integer by all the whole numbers less than it down to one.
For example, 6 factorial is 6×5×4×3×2×1.

reciprocal - ANSWER the number by which another number may be multiplied
to create 1; for a fraction, its reciprocal is that fraction turned upside down.

To convert a percentage to a decimal, drop the percent sign and move the
decimal point two positions to the left, adding zeros as necessary.
