United Interview - Technical Questions with Certified Answers
United Interview - Technical Questions with Certified Answers Can you walk me through your preflight briefing using United's 13 point briefing method? W: weather and windshear - weather, windshear A: aircraft and airport - Mx, fuel, departure cx, taxi plan, hot spots, runway length, takeoff performance, rejected takeoff criteria, engine failure procedures, evacuation duties, departure SID review N: notams T: threats - personal, environmental, technical Can you list the 13 briefing items? 1. Weather/Windshear 2. Maintenance status 3. Fuel plan 4. Departure clearance 5. Taxi plan 6. Hotspots 7. Takeoff performance 8. Rejected takeoff procedures 9. Engine failure procedures 10. Evacuation duties 11. Departure SID review 12. Notams 13. Threats What do you do when you're pulled off a SID with a climb via clearance? You are no longer bound by the lateral or vertical SID restrictions and must query ATC for your altitude clearance if not provided. Can you walk me through your companys V1 abort procedure? Reject below 80 knots for: any non-normal condition Reject above 80 knots for: fire, engine failure, loss of directional control, or perception the aircraft will mot fly Procedure: - Reason to reject - Either pilot - "ABORT ABORT ABORT" - Abort callout - PF - Thrust levers idle, apply brakes, deploy thrust reversers PM - verify all actions are accomplished, callout omissions, advise ATC of aborted takeoff - After RTO - Either pilot - evaluate conditions prior to taxiing, clear runway if able, accomplish appropriate flows Can you walk me through descent planning using 3-1 method? Altitude you need to lose multiplied by 3. 30,000 descend to 20,000 = 10 x 3 = 30 miles prior start descent assuming no winds. How do you calculate a descent with a 3 degree angle? Divide ground speed by 2 then add a 0 to your answer. EX: ground speed 130kts divided by 2 is 65. add a 0 and your descent should be roughly 650ft/min What do you need if you're vectored off a STAR? You need an altitude assignment. An ATC vector off of a SID or STAR cancels that procedure and they must assign an altitude. What do you do if your IDG fails in flight? Follow QRH. When should you start down from FL350 to cross fix at 12,000ft? Difference multiplied by 3. 23 times 3 equals 69 How far out would you start a descent to lose 10,000ft? 30 miles (slightly more or less depending on tail/head wind) What are your current companies reject criteria? Below 80 knots: any non-normal condition Above 80 knots: fire, engine failure, loss of directional control, or perception the aircraft will not fly What are stabilized approach criteria? By 1,000 ft. in IMC or 500 ft. in VMC: - Vref + 10 - Briefed rate of descent - Fully configured - Thrust not at idle How would you debrief after a flight using United's CRM/TEM model? Crew Debrief What went well? What could have gone better? Why? - Answer through the lens of the seven CRM/TEM skills What will we do next time? Walk me through thought process on a diversion? I would work with the PIC and Dispatch to find the most suitable airport. We would first consider my filed alternate, if not that airport, I'd look for airports of similar distance away with sufficient runway length and United services available. We would consider weather
