Decreasing Surgical Site Infections Problem or Issue My proposed capstone project topic is focused on decreasing surgical site infections(SSIs). SSIs constitute a significant issue because they are a common complication of surgery and can lead to increased morbidity and mortality rates, particularly in the post-surgical period (Alizo et al., 2019). In addition, SSIs often lead to more hospitalizations, which affects staffing, bed availability, and profits. Setting or Context in Which it is Observed The setting or context in which this problem or issue of SSIs can be observed includes inpatient and outpatient settings, particularly in acute care and surgical settings (Collins & Wick,2019). During the project, the patient population will be monitored for risk factors associated with SSIs, such as age, diabetes, and immunosuppressant use, as well as other factors, such as aseptic technique, use of prophylactic antibiotics, and hand hygiene.
