Introduction The issue of nursing shortages and high nursing turnover is a prevalent issue across the nation. Healthcare organizations know the importance of addressing staffing issues as nursing shortages have a negative impact on patient outcomes and the quality of care provided to patients. One of the contributing factors that lead to ongoing issues is one’s work environment. In this paper we will compare contributing factors, research questions, sample populations, and limitations of the previously reviewed articles. The goal of this paper is to review literature with supporting evidence of the impact of nursing shortage, nursing burnout, and nursing turnover. Upon review and comparison of the reviewed literature this nurse will then make recommendations for further research with the goal of addressing the issues, with the issues of nursing turnover, and nursing shortage.
