QUESTION ONE 24

Scenario 1: Conflict
Mrs. January is a Grade 3 teacher at XY Primary School. She has decided to let learners
integrate their theoretical and practical knowledge of bugs in their natural environment by
allowing them to explore the school terrain. Learners are divided into groups of two and should
attempt to catch the bugs with a bottle. They should then present their bug to the class and
relate it to the theory that they have learned.

Two learners, Angie and Jake, have been allocated to the same group. They are currently in
conflict because they both want to do the presentation, but they have different ideas about
how to approach it. The conflict arises from their strong personalities and differing perspectives
on bug presentations.

As the conflict escalates, Mrs. January notices the tension between Angie and Jake during
one of the outdoor exploration sessions. She addresses the issue to ensure a positive learning
experience for both learners. Mrs. January knows that conflicts are a normal part of classroom
dynamics and can provide valuable opportunities for growth and learning.
