Accuracy and reliability
I have tried my best to make all my results for all three tests as accurate as
possible. There many things that I did to ensure that my results were precise . An
example of this is the fact that I repeated the experiment three times . This
means that there are three test results to work with to fgure out the correct
volume. These results were calculated to fnd the meann which is the closest to
the actual value for titrations. This made results to the tests performedn more
accurate as there was a comparison of results that helped me see if the results
were actually closen or way of. An example of this is the Sodium Hydroxide
titration experiment and the Sodium Carbonate experimentn which I did thrice . I
got three diferent results which were fairly close which made me come to a
conclusion that my results were precise. Repeating results also helps to double
check the test making sure that all steps are done correctly and no mistakes are
made.
Another aspect in this test that had to be controlled was the reliability and I
made sure that my results were reliable too. I did this by comparing my results
for both the titrationsn and the colorimeter testsn with other people in my classn
who also carried out the experiment. All of our results were very similar in all
three of the tests. This shows that my results are reliable and reproduciblen as
many people doing the experiment separately got similar results for the same
tests. This also shows that the results were reproducible which also gives further
evidence that they are accurate and reliable .
Another reason why I believe my test is reliable is that there is a distinct
ascending pattern in my results. There can also be a line of best ft for my results
in a graph which would be a straight line going upwards in a consistent manner .
This shows consistency in my resultsn further making my results more reliable
and is aspect of validity and proves the results to be more accurate .
Sodium Carbonate Titration
In the Sodium Carbonate Titration for the frst stepn I made sure that I did it very
accuratelyn as it was a step that involved measuring . The step is as followsn
‘Transfer a 25cm3 aliquot (portion) of your sodium carbonate solution to a
250cm3 capacity conical fask.’ In this step I made sure to check I the meniscus
was on the line and repeated the measurement again to make sure that I had
done it precisely.
Sodium Hydroxide Titration
In the Sodium Hydroxide Titration for the last stepn I made sure that it was
accurate because I was to detect the colour change by eye. The step is as
followsn ‘Record the volume of the hydrochloric acid when the reaction has
reached its end point.’ This step was very hard to keep accurate as it is hard to
make sure that you stop the reaction at the right time. I didn howevern try to
make it as accurate as possible by getting another person to look at the conical
