1. Apply evidence-based leadership skills and concepts in the planning of an executive-level practice change project. Leadership skills were applied in project management by participating in a range of project activities that included developing training modules, conducting weekly meetings, and reviewing project progress. 2. Develop an evidence-based foundation to lead organizational change using current knowledge, standards of practice, and research from current literature. I was able to find literature on bedside reporting and purposeful rounding from different databases. However, I did have challenges identifying the exact literature on the subject. 3. Exemplify professional values and scholarship that support the role of a student in a practicum setting during the planning phases of a practice change project. Although I believe I did well implementing the professional values as a nurse executive, I do not think that I did great at it. NR631 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience - I 4. Apply evidence-based fiscal principles that contribute to the creation of a caring environment characterized by high quality, safe, patient-centered care During the last eight weeks, I managed to complete key project activities such as project planning, and setting up meetings with different stakeholders. Although I am in the process of conducting an audit, I made some observations to identify potential flaws. I also involved the facility management to provide guidance on the utilization of financial resources 5. Apply an evidence-based change theory to a project that results in practice change and positive organizational outcomes I undertook a comprehensive research that focused on the benefits of bedside reporting and purposeful rounding. I think it will be easy to understand the impact of the proposed change once the process of evaluating the project is completed. 6. Assess personal level of nurse executive competencies The initial budget estimate was $1 million dollars. I expect the project to stay within budget. As a nurse executive, I feel that I have improved in terms of ability to guide the care delivery team about the value of evidence-based practice Project Scope and Charter Project scope describes the part of project planning in which specific project goals, tasks, costs, deadlines, and deliverables are determined and documented. The project scope statement defines the project boundaries, identifies responsibilities for everyone involved in completing the project, and describes procedures for completing various project activities including verification and NR631 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience - I approval. Regardless of the type of project being undertaken, documenting project scope has many benefits that include the following. For example, the project’s scope helps direct the project team on common objectives and prevents complex projects from expanding beyond the defined vision. Project scope is also a roadmap that project managers use to schedule project budgets and activities appropriately (Molaei, Bosch-Rekveldt, and Bakker, 2019). On the other hand, the project charter describes the project in entirety. It is an essential component in project planning because it is used in the entire project lifecycle (Al-Hajj and Zraunig, 2018). The current project (Chamberlain University Project) is focused on the implementation of bedside reporting and purposeful rounding among patients presenting to the ED. Key project stakeholders are the management, nurse manager, and ED staff. The role of the management is to facilitate the successful implementation of the proposed intervention. The key goal of this project is to reduce the Left Without Being Seen (LWBS) rate by 2%. The project is important because successful implementation of the suggested intervention is an opportunity for the hospital to enjoy additional benefits such as an increase in increase in admissions and this translates into additional revenue. The project is set to last six months with the start date being November 2020 ending April 2021. The estimated project budget is $1 million. The proposed budget is adequate to finance a range of project activities that include project planning and implementation, and other costs such as training, subscription, capital, personnel, and reconstruction costs. A number of areas will be NR631 Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience - I reviewed to measure project success. These include assessing whether the project was completed as per the schedule, establishing whether the rate of LWBS has been reduced and whether project objectives were achieved. Communication Plan According to Rajhans (2018), effective communication is an important component of project management. With effective communication, it is easy to share project information with everyone involved leading to successful project completion. Having a communication plan is one of the ways through which project managers ensure the existence of effective communication. Developing a communication plan entails identifying key stakeholders, assessing the type of information required, defining methods of communication, and obtaining signoff from stakeholders. The Expected Forms of Communication throughout the Project As noted by Beatty (2015), communication takes different forms that include oral, written, and nonverbal communication methods. Communicating effectively and clearly is critical especially when undertaking complex projects. For this project, communication will occur through face-to-face conversations, email, and meetings. The project team will comprise of unit managers, hospital administrator, CFO, and nurses. Communication with the project team will be through email and face-to-face meetings. Email communications take up to 24 hours while the face-to-face meetings will last about one hour.
