In this assignment, I will be researching events of different sizes and looking at their factors for success,
as well as explaining my event chosen event idea and my reasons of choice. I will also touch on the
feasibility of the event and explain factors that need to be considered when producing a detailed plan
and finally conclude on why I believe my team’s event will be successful.
Small event: Macmillan coffee morning:
The Macmillan Coffee Morning, also known as the ‘world’s biggest coffee morning’ is the biggest
fundraising event where each year, people in the United Kingdom host their own coffee morning
and all donations go to Macmillan’s services, particularly for cancer research. Macmillan coffee
mornings tend to take place every Friday the 30th of September, but can be held any time at
any location.
Macmillan’s first coffee morning happened in 1990 when their local committee had an idea that
people should come in and socialise with others over snacks such as biscuits and warm drinks
such as coffee to raise money for Macmillan. Since the local event was a success, Macmillan
decided to host a nationwide version a year later and had more than 2,600 people taking part. In
2016, the coffee morning had raised over £29.5million to provide support to individuals and
families battling cancer. The most that Macmillan coffee morning has managed to raise is over
£11 million and Macmillan has stated that they aim to top that figure for 2022 and for the years
to come.
Macmillan cancer support has raised an astonishing £290million since its first coffee morning in
1990.
