1. (a) Phatic Function focuses mainly on social interactivity. The purpose is to
diminish the tension in an uncomfortable situation when stranger meet. The
aim is to acknowledge the existence of another human being or a person.
(b) Directive Function – the main aim of this language function is usually
used to give commands and to make pleas. The commands conveyed to the
next person need to be clear and easy t comprehend, as it was initially
deliberated
(c) The difference between the two is that phatic function mainly deals with
social interactivity, whereas directive function deals with giving commands
and making pleas.
