Unit 20 – Investigating Corporate Social Responsibility
Learning Aim, C: Review the CSR record of a private sector business
Explain the impact of a selected business’s
behaviour and its help in a local community, on
its CSR record
Introduction
A CSR report showcases a business’s CSR records and actions that they have a goal in achieving. A
CSR report is important for Nestle to have because it communicates with their stakeholders what
they are doing that enables them to go above and beyond. An advantage of a CSR report is that it
can improve business reputation and helps boost employee’s morale because if your organisation is
doing something then your firm will get some recognition from it which will lead to employees being
more engaged and productive. In addition, it highlights their positive outcomes towards what a
business does to support their community, environment, employees and much more. For example,
for Nestle in their CSR report, they have shown some of their ways they are supporting their local
community which includes some of their initiatives which are the “Nestle for Healthier Kids”,
“Engaging children in cooking.” Therefore, this clearly will help Nestle improve their brand image as
they are doing something good for their local community which is why they showcased in their
report. Overall, a CSR report is important to have for a business like Nestle as it’s trying to inform
and educate their stakeholders on how they are transparent and open to what they are trying to
achieve as a business. Some examples of internal stakeholders for Nestle is managers, shareholders,
employees, and the board of directors. Some examples of external stakeholders for Nestle is
suppliers, customers, government, and creditors. Nestle is known to have a CSR policy that relates to
them having a concern environmental, social, supply chain and a community issue. A social audit is
defined as when you look at how your company is performing and comparing it to see if it’s meeting
the CSR aims. A social audit is important because it looks at if your company is doing any practice of
CSR which includes if they are doing any social, environmental or community. Therefore, if Nestle
does a social audit and assesses their performance in making sure they meet their stakeholders’
expectations then this will help increase their brand image and show how they are being
transparent. A clear drawback of a social audit is that time is involved which means that it can be
quite hard to set up as well as you will need to put effort in producing it. Overall, a social audit looks
at how well a business like Nestle meet some of their goals intended to meet the purpose of CSR.

Education and support for local community
